He reacted quickly, but a lot of times when you don't you end up dead.
Protip for anyone reading this thread: Never reach back into your car for anything, if a gun is pulled on you just lie down.
Specially in Murica.

Dude went back into his car with a quickness. It seems it would be common sense not to do that. I always state exactly what movements I'm going to make beforehand and make it known there is a handgun on the seat.
With all that said, the cop is 100% at fault. He didn't direct the suspect on what to do. He just said "let me see your license". He was trained to stay in control as peacefully as possible and failed miserably.

Cops are out of control

Cop should be in jail, family should get paid.

The officer reacted way too quickly. He should be fired and charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to cause serious bodily harm, and endangering the public because he missed 3 or 4 shots.
officers like that have no place on the streets and simply put are a thug with a badge

Yea, I am usually on the cops side but that was extreme. I know there are dangers but if you do not want to face those dangers, don't be a cop. It exists every day

Inexcusable.

Appears he has been charged.

A South Carolina state trooper was fired last week and arrested on Wednesday after a dashcam video showed him shooting an unarmed man during a routine traffic stop.
Former officer Sean Groubert, 31, is seen in the newly released video pulling over Levar Edward Jones. The clip, which was recorded on Groubert's dashcam on Sept. 4, shows Jones getting out of his vehicle at a gas station in Columbia.
quote:
Groubert was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, a felony which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, according to a news release from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
The complaint states that Groubert "did without justification unlawfully shoot Levar Jones which produced great bodily injury or was likely to cause great bodily injury. Audio and visual recordings, as well as written statements, obtained are further evidence to indicate the shooting incident was without justification."
South Carolina Department of Public Safety Director Leroy Smith called the case disturbing.

The people you aren't allowed to criticize are the ones in charge.
And in America the Cops are everyone's boss. Even making a quick movement is going to get you blasted away by some douchebag with a bag. And larger douchebags are defending the cops saying "well if he hadn't made that sudden movement".
Look, the USA isn't Fallujah, there is NO REASON why cops are so eager to blast citizens.

Happened only a couple miles from my house, only about a half mile from the SC Law enforcement Hall of Fame and Academy, in broad daylight.
This cop was a fricking idiot, hope he gets what he deserves.

Yup. My mantra is not to be stupid around police. That is pretty reliable in defusing most situations and saving one's arse from tragic misunderstanding.
No defense for the cop here. Citizen is trying to comply--give him an adequate chance to do so.
Crazy this happened so close to you.

The cop fricked up and is being charged. But lets be honest. With what we pay cops we aren't attracting the countries best and brightest. This kind of shite is to be expected.

Cop turns out to be a worthless piece of shite. Color me shocked.

I consider myself a realist, and any time someone has a job where they can be shot at any moment for something as simple as a traffic violation -- I think there's a problem in both directions, not just with police officers.
Our citizens have quick access to weapons, and will use them not to go to prison/jail or pay a small fine. Reaching into your vehicle and turning around is a bad idea, period, when someone has a gun on you.
As I said: Your best option is to drop on the ground and have your day in court.
Not the morgue.
