We had a legit shot at getting Stoops during Urban's first "retirement."

I think you HAVE to call Chip Kelly, Kevin Sumlin, Gus Malzahn, and James Franklin as the top candidates.

I don't know if any of them would leave for UF but they are the top coaches who I think Florida would have a chance at getting.

After them I guess Florida would go to the Dan Mullen, Hugh Feeze, Mark Helfriech types. I don't think Florida would have any trouble pulling one of them away from their current jobs.

Malzahn to Ark after Bert leaves for Michigan.

Fla gives Mullen a long, hard look. They like Freeze but can't choose him over Mullen. James Franklin is mentioned at length but Penn State keeps him with a huge pay raise. Chip Kelly doesn't answer the phone.Sumlin is too busy answering the calls from the NFL. Butch Jones is a last minute addition to the list and takes a serious look.

UF might have to take backseat. LSU might have to look for a new HC. Miles will be a candidate for UM job if and when they fire Hoke, which will probably be this season. Even though speculation/hope is there is belief they might be able to pull Harbaugh to UM. Miles might seize the opportunity this time to get out of the SEC like Meyer did. If so LSU would still be a better program than UF, in current state, to go after for a HC looking to move up.

It will also be really hard now to lure away someone like Stoops with the playoffs giving teams a better chance for post season play.

Isn't leaving the NFL for a college team.

Kevin Sumlin

Texas A&M is a cult and Kevin Sumlin is their leader. Good luck getting him out of College Station.

Gus Malzahn

Ditto for Malzahn and Auburn.

James Franklin

This might be your guy right here. He's a capable coach who was able to recruit well at Vanderbilt. Imagine how he'd recruit in Gainesville.
