In 2013, A&M had a total of 67 tackles for loss and a total of 21 sacks.
After four games in 2014, A&M has 30 tackles for loss and 17 sacks.

You can't tell against the teams Texas A&M has played.

Congrats on playing no one... SC included.

In four weeks
A&M allowed 31 points to Rice, 28 to Sam Houston, and 13 to SMU in 2013. They allowed 19 combined to SMU, Rice, and Lamar this year.

your defense is just racking up stats against shitty teams like your offense racks up points against them, but when you play arkasnas, Auburn, msu, ole miss, bama, and LSU that wont mean shite

We didn't last year, but we'll get more than 4 tackles for loss.

2013 defense couldn't even do that.

Ok, so your defense has improved against terrible teams. I would chill until your SEC schedule kicks in to gear.

Playaction passing teams are routinely the most heavily sacked. A well timed blitz is basically an automatic sack against an immobile QB running playaction from under center. If the defense doesn't bite, it's game over.
It's actually why I prefer playaction run from the gun, because the QB doesn't have to turn his back to the defense and can get rid of the ball if the defense comes after him.

sure they have improved enough to put up good numbers against the worst teams in the FBS, but that doesn't mean they will play any better against SEC west competition. A&M's defense is still unproven.

Last year, a good downfield playaction passing scheme like USC's would have dropped 40 on us easy.

wow, good observation. You mean if the DC calls the right play, then the offensive play isn't going to work? You're a god damned genius

Not quite, playaction from under center does increase the risk of sacks and turnovers because the QB often gets hit before he sees the defenders or has time to protect the ball. It is very high risk because once he whips his head around, he immediately has to assess whether or not the blitzers and ends bit on the run or are already baring down on him.
There are downsides to playaction from the gun, namely that the defense is less likely to bite on the fake, but the risks are substantially reduced. I don't like my QBs turning their backs to the defense.

Case in point: A&M vs. Arkansas 2011
Tyler Wilson was sacked four times, twice by defensive backs, and twice by Sean Porter. He still managed to put up over 500 yards because the defensive line couldn't get any pressure at all, only getting 1 total TFL from Spencer Nealy. A&M led time of possession but still managed to blow a 35-17 halftime lead.
