I don't mind it and it's actually gotten good results so far, but I just don't know about doing it on every 3rd down

From what I have heard, during the band controversy last year (when they thought they weren't getting to play as much as they should), Butch made fun of the band to some administrators and pretty much said they're lucky they get to play and wouldn't if he had his way.
He will add more and more piped in music year by year. 3rd Down For What is just the beginning.
I'm sure that's legit given you're the only person who has ever said such a thing. A coach who has embraced UT tradition like he can't get enough of it hates the band. LMAO.
Despite that tale, it's never been a secret - Hart is the one who made these calls as did the conference although not all schools have implemented them.

Same. It doesn't really bother me but I'm not terribly fond of it either. My guess is that it will be old by seasons end.

frick the band. I am not a big believer in Butch Jones, but his hatred of the band is one thing I am with him 100% on.

If it makes you vol fans feel any better OU's band always plays their opponent's fight song, especially if their band can't make the trip to Norman. They've been doing this for a while now, so at least you get to hear it once.

How sad
Would be very cool of OU band to learn and play it a couple of times.....but I am not holding my breath. It is OU and we know Stoops doesn't have a friendly bone in his body.
I really hope the Vols beat those sooners.
Edit: Just read the post above. Good for the OU band!

Piped in music belongs in the NFL.....NOT college football

I don't expect anything like Ohio State, but I can only imagine the amount of work those kids put into practicing just to have the same old stale shows.
Yeah it is a lot of hard work, but what most people don't understand is that we as band kids don't pick the show. We're expected to show up, memorize whatever music the band directors give us, play the music perfectly, and hope the crowd responds to the music in a good way. Personally I would love to do the shows Ohio State does, but that probably won't happen here at Alabama. But I think I can speak for every band kid around the nation when I say that we do these shows for YOUR entertainment, not to hear ourselves play. We hope you enjoy them, otherwise we've been wasting our time for nothing.

Frick Butch Jones. Like it's some kind of f'n privilege to be there. Truth be told, probably a lot of them had rather be somewhere else in the first place. The band DOES NOT exist for the benefit of the athletic department.

I agree 100%
At least at Alabama we're given a chance to play, we don't have nearly as much piped in music in comparison to other schools.

You're assuming that this story is true, it isn't.

First @bogie thank you for the kind words and info even though you got ninja'd by Carolina Tide. It's very much appreciated.
I agree with both of you and I was never a part of the band k-12 but the band matters. Sadly for us, Hart started piping in a tad of music last year (few noticed at the time and it was really no big deal) and now he's taking it a step further. He also stopped the band from traveling to Oregon last year in the name of money.
It seems this year the slow creep continues. But we're not fools this shite is noticable across fan bases and the vast majority hate it, especially if they have a solid band tradition and fight songs the fans love (it's different for those who don't and that's cool too as being modern is their tradition). But all and all, it's diluting the fan experience and taking away from the game to do this.
I think the goal of Hart and others is too keep on chipping away ever so slightly at the band in the hopes that by the time we notice it will be too late. And of course, the end goal is MOAR ad dollars but as you said this shite belongs in the NFL not college and to the point where I can see it and other changes turning off fans. Our universities and traditions are what we love about CFB and keep us coming back - otherwise there's more talented football in the NFL.
Those traditions, and the band is a BIG part of them, are also part of what keep SEC stadiums full but without them TV is just a good an option.

Alabama didn't take a band to Norman in 2002.

Does Tennessee still mic their band in Neyland? The only thing worse than hearing Rocky Top is hearing it with an "echo"

Nice- we'll return the favor next year since The Pride always plays the opposing team's fight song during the pregame.
