Blake Sims has established himself as the one to beat at this point. The coaches know this, but they also know that we haven't seen Sims run that offense against an elite defense yet. Coker brings the booming arm, but he's been slow to show comfort in the driver's seat.
Unless Blake Sims really lays an egg against USM, he's sure to be the starter going into the Florida game. The coaches continue to work hard with Coker because we may need him as the weeks go on. What happens if Florida shuts us down offensively, and then he continues to struggle in the next game against Ole Miss? That's the scenario where Coker could take over (and, of course, injury).
If we had the Bama 2011 defense, we might not need the QB to win any games. So far this year, I don't think our defense looks like they can carry the offense in big games.
