Here's what I know so far:

This team is young. Very young. That means growing plays and inconsistent play.

The team as a whole improved the level of their play from week one to week two. That means they are listening to the coaches and have upside.

Golden and Ray are great, but nobody behind them is getting their name called. Our depth on defense with the 2's getting their names called and getting significant snaps is why we're not in worse shape despite all the starters we lost. IMO at least one of Harris, Hatley or Loud needs to show something and soon.

The DT's aren't dominating like we saw them last year, even though we returned basically everybody in the 2-deep of the interior. I expect they'll come around.

Mauk is going to be fine, but he'll always have moments where he's a gunslinger. Despite completing more passes, he still isn't finding secondary receivers enough when the primary's not there. The good news his completion % was over 60% at Toledo. He needs to be better on 3rd down still, though he improved from the week before.

Hunt, Sasser and White are all good receivers and talented, but Hunt dropped some easy passes and caught harder ones. I don't see anybody behind them yet making an impact. Culkin is a big beast at TE if Maty can just find him.

Hansbrough is a tough, hard runner. He could easily average 100yds/game if he gets enough carries. Murphy is more explosive but Hansbrough gets more tough yards up the middle. They make a great 1-2 punch, but I think it's important we get Steward back ASAP and work him in. Backs get banged up in the SEC. Young guys behind them haven't shown much. I saw Witter try to cut on a carry and just slip down.

The linebackers overall are faster as athletes but not faster yet in their reads, are too often getting tied up with blockers and don't always wrap up. Wilson may not have been the fastest, but we miss his punishing hits and assignment-sound football.

The CB's will continue to make mistakes and will give up plays, but they have talent. It isn't helping that we're giving a ten yard cushion and they aren't wrapping up when they do tackle. I am trusting that will get better, but if it doesn't it will be a long year. Our safeties just aren't making big plays right now.

The offensive line is not dominating yet like I though they would. I know a couple are playing new positions, but they need to get better.

Special teams look ordinary, save for the occasional big Murphy run. Our kick coverage is still leaving holes that good teams will exploit with better athletes.

Overall the great news is there isn't one unit on this football team that has reached it's potential. The bad news is there isn't one unit that looks like it is playing sound, consistent football at an upper tier SEC level.

We must improve fast over the next two games before we head to South Carolina. That 3 game stretch, @USCe, Georgia, @UF, will define our season and we're nowhere near close to ready yet. Last year started out in a similar way, too, but we've got more holes to fill this year and no time once we start SEC play.
