Why is Alabama rated #2? Reputation, The ESPN/SEC network push this, Saban.... Alabama did not play like the Number 2 team last week, but it is a long season. The final poll is what mattetd.
A 1 loss Bama team that does not win their conference championship has the greatest chance of being in the playoffs for the same reasons.

There's a reason they have that reputation.
Also, just throwing this out there.....we don't know how good West Virginia is at this point.
