Could Kentucky be a dark horse contender in 2 - 3 years under Stoops?

Big Blue was one of the more solid SEC teams in week 1.
A new business is all about location, location, location.
A new football team is all about coaching, coaching, coaching and Big Blue certainly has that.

no i dont really see that happening.

I just don't see it happening. The state of Kentucky just doesn't produce the talent that Texas, LA, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia do and they don't have the history and tradition to recruit as well out of state as the others like the basketball team does. Coaching may go a long way, but, generally, whoever puts the best athletes on the field wins.

Contender for Atlanta highly doubtful. Let them get to spoiler level first then you can make threads.

Dark horse for a bowl game? Sure.

They can't get recruits, so no.

Yes. In the East, if they get it going they could be in the conversation for winning the division.

I'm a big a Kentucky football fan as anyone, but I'd like to see us go up against a better team than UT Martin before I get my hopes up.
As far as this season goes, the game against Ohio will be a bit more telling as to how far along we've come since last season.
If Stoops keeps recruiting at the level that he is right now, then I really see no reason why we wont be able to compete for Atlanta in a couple of seasons... once he gets his own players in there and his own system running smoothly.

Why not? Apparently everyone else in the SEC is going to win 10 games or more in 2014.

Contender for what? Kentucky is never winning the eastern division during my lifetime. The east was as down as it is ever going to get during the last 4 or 5 years and Kentucky still couldn't win it

Considering friggin MIZZOU won the division last year and even lowly Arkansas made the trip to ATL 3 times, anything could happen I guess.

It's hard to not be excited, all those feels you must have, but lets not make the same mistake Vol fans make every year and overreact to the first game.
We are probably headed for 4 wins, 5 at best. Which is a huge improvement over last year and most of our starters will be returning for next year.

If Stoops does a great job, someone will hire him away.

Like others in the thread have stated, bowl eligibility should be where UK fans lay their hopes for now.
