Do certain things Pinkel does frustrate me? Yes. Would I have fired Dave Steckel after the Auburn embarrassment (on the heels of the similar Navy embarrassment)? Possibly. Do I think Pinkel will ever get us over the hump? Not likely.

Yep, I think you see things as I do, some success but lot's of issues not solved by Pinkel and they don't appear they are being solved.

People are confused by his accomplishments, and it's understandable, when you are a long suffering fan like an old time Mizzou football fan, well, any water in the desert, is good water.

Let's compare him to someone like Snyder, one of our favorite Mizzou alums. Synder has done a good bit with a program in a state where it will always be considered the "second son" and not one that actually produces much talent. He's figured out ways to get it done, but more than anything he just "knows" football.

Look at his coaching tree. Mark Mangino, Bob Stoops, Mike Stoops, Brent Venebles, Bret Beliema, Phil Bennett, oh yes and Urban Meyer. The guy is a whose who in the world of bootstrapping football coaching talent.

Now look at Pinkel seems to fancy himself as something of a mentor and "brain" at least on the offensive side of the ball, look at his tree. Christianson, Eberflus, Yost, Stec, Odom and Henson, the only one I would give a dime for as a game planner is Henson and really the jury is still out on what he's going to do. As a sideline game day coach, Pinkel is far more likely to get out coached by a Stoops, Sndyer, Gus or Gundy than he is to win on his preparation and planning. His ability to win on shear strategy is pretty much non existent. He's supposed to have a deep strike and hurry up offense and yet, since Chase D, is horrid at the 2 minute mark in games, is it any wonder he so often chooses to just take a knee?

Pinkel is just not a top X's and O's guy and never will be. I would be all for Stec moving on to his next job if I thought Pinkel would bring in a Muschamp(assuming he's let go) to build a real defensive system. The problem is we know Pinkel would probably promote Kul or even Ford before he would do himself a favor and go out and bring in a proven guy to do the job. Pinkel just doesn't want to admit how much help he needs in the scheme dept., just too hard headed, and that's why you will continue to see teams like you saw, Sat. and last year in ATL. Looking lost at times, if not for the entire game.

I really would like to hear what you see as the solutions, short and long-term.

Well what am I solving and from where? If you mean if I am head coach or Pinkel? Assuming Henson doesn't really break it loose here in the next year, like I said, Pinkel doesn't have time to putter around with hoping he can develop and promote from within at the top jobs, he needs to go and get the Muschamp and Kingsbury level of coordination and stop kidding himself(deluding himself) that he can mentor them and just promote from within, the facts of his coaching tree speak for themself.

If he really wants to win the big trophy that is his option, the making 2 and 3 star kids into first rounders is nice and all but if that and recruiting the occasional big star was enough, he would have already gotten that trophy by now. He simply can't out recruit and or produce enough talent to overcome his poor gameday management job.

Longterm? His longterm future is a retirement cabin at the lake, be it in Mo. or Ohio, doesn't make much difference. Oh yes, and anyone who thinks we need to listen to who Pinkel thinks should be hired as the next HC needs to get their head unplugged from their butthole, pronto, before they suffocate. The Mike Alden russian roulette, ask the magic swami 8 ball system has a better chance than leaving that up to Gary.

So yea, Gary has worked fairly hard and deserves credit for making a respectable program at a place that is NOT the armpit of college football and has great potential. Yet his goal of getting to the next level remains beyond his grasp. We do what we do may build solid programs but when you aren't already at the top level you need to figure out how to do something you don't do, that's win the big ones. If Gary doesn't figure that out soon, he's destined to spend his retirement wondering why he never got there.

I don't think this has ever been their goal. Where we are now was the next level. Honestly, this regime will never break through this ceiling, and I'm ok with it. The best we can ask for at this point is an SEC championship.

As long as the next group has the goal of getting to the next level, which is now a Final Four/Championship. I can handle GP doing what he does for a few more years. If he keeps this up the program will be in a place where they can make a big hire that takes everything up a notch.

I have no problem sitting back and enjoying the next few years. I know what my expectations are, I'm ok with it for now. I remember the bad times. When the very idea of Mizzou Football gave me a headache. It's come a long way, and it's all because of GP. Not anyone else.

I respect what the man has done, but you're right about letting him choose his successor. That's always a shitty idea.
