Thursday night so student's have classes the following day (not that any will attend) and some people need to get back to jobs. Plus Ole Miss and Boise St. is at 8 so they don't want to overlap.

ETA: and according to the post below Vandy plays afterwards on the SECNetwork. The SC-A&M game is in a much better time slot, and on top of that they will almost always make the East Coast game before the Central time zone game in these scenarios.

Our opener started at 6 last year also. ESPN is trying to squeeze as many games into Thursday night as possible, so we have to start earlier.

They are closing area schools early and are encouraging people to leave work early tomorrow so that traffic can be a little less of an issue.
