As I said before, I am not sold on Mason and his ability to hit the deep ball. Does it seem that the coaches are thinking the same, and hoping for receivers to be able to make moves after the fact in order to get long yardage?

quote:

“Sometimes you don’t have to have blinding speed to go deep, sometimes it’s just a matter of getting off the jam and getting the guy cut off,” head coach Mark Richt said. “You know all these guys have pretty good game speed not many guys just run away from people. But you know we have had a good history of placing the ball where our guys can catch it.”

Put another way, the hope is that Mason can hit Bennett, Conley or someone else on a nicely placed pass after the receiver puts the move on a defender.

well yeah. You don't HAVE to have a JSW track star to just blaze past people to go deep.

Sean Bailey and Momass both had average to above average speed, certainly neither of them were 'burners', but those guys caught deep balls on the reg. Beating the jam and running a crisp route has more to do with it than speed, IMO.

The back shoulder passing game will decimate their secondary.

Georgia's success on the deep ball usually comes off play action. If the DBs hesitate on the fake that creates an opportunity to get into space.

I'm not worried about Mason's deep game. He is an SEC caliber QB and I'm sure he has a gun. Deep game is a small facet of the overall offense anyway.

I'm trying to figure out how an article about our two best deep threat receivers being out got turned into another thread about Mason's arm.

However unsold you may be on Mason's arm, I'm less sold on your reading comprehension.

Serious question... Who is our biggest down the field player w/o MM and JSW? Is it Bennett, Conley, Rumph, or Davis? Will Ole newcomer Charlie be a wildcard that Clemson doesn't prepare for?
