sure but how many more people would have been saved if they had a fire arm or some other type of weapon until the cops arrived? It isn't very fair to the cops to expect them to show up any faster than they do because most times it isn't possible for them to show up faster. Therefore it is much better for a citizen to both call 911 and actually have some sort of self defense. Do cops get there in time and stop some crimes? sure they do, but not all the time.

fwiw i've never called 911. I'm more likely to need to call 911 over a fire or medical emergency than over needing my life saved from a criminal.

Most police forces are trained in CPR as well. So that medical emergency could be a cop that is on the scene first saving your life....the same for firefighters and actual medical personnel.
