Extremely hard to get a job there. They are at the federally mandated cap for FTEs and look to be so until either budgets change or a large group of people retire.

About the only way to get on with CDC now is as a contractor, and lab workers may not be a contractable area.

You could also look into the big food companies (GMO anyone?) or possibly alternative fuel companies (there are some doing research on algae or other organisms as potential power sources).
