You make all kinds of claims about how Fayetteville is this, struggling this way or that.

Please enlighten us all as to what basis you are using for comparison, because it seems to constantly shift.

Rents in Fayetteville aren't as high as they are in Chicago or Los Angeles. Chicago and L.A. also have bettter restaurants. OMG, holy frick. Tell us more.

Would you also like to inform me as to the color of grass and the color of the sky, captain obvious? Or do you want to keep on posting stupid crazy shite that betrays your obvious mental problems?

Just about any dumbass knows that when you critique how well a city (in this case Fayetteville) is or isn't doing, you should compare it to what are called its "peer cities". Compare it to other college towns in the south. Compare it to other landlocked American cities with a population of 75,000 people.

If, after making this (what is called a fair) comparison, you still find Fayetteville to be so terribly lacking, I honestly think you need your head examined.

by the looks of this thread, Fayetteville isn't severely lacking in gays and morons...

Seriously? Are we really going to set the precedent of allowing guys and girls to use the same public bathrooms (yes, I know some may have tits and wangs, some superior and some not) but Dayummm!

Wonder how RRS will look on gamedays, Which bathrooms will have both, and will there be gay family bathrooms, will the club sections be relieved of this rule..

And the most important thing.. When will coke replace pepsi as sponsor of the LGBT Games?

Orly, where did I claim Fayetteville was a struggling city?

I don't see why anyone should be worried about a transgendered person using the bathroom. They just want to use the bathroom where they feel comfortable and safe.

Going into the bathroom to creep on other people is still against the law in Fayetteville.

Called the law of unintended consequences. And with the foresight (or lack there of) some of these city leaders have I doubt they have thought thru this very far. The fact they amended the ordinance during the meeting/ discussion proves that.

Yeah, how unconventional--amending an ordinance during a meeting about the ordinance. I'm pretty sure that's what meetings are for.

I think you're one of the people who haven't thought this ordinance through. You conjure the vague spectre of "unintended consequences" but do not offer any examples. Is that because your examples are easily discarded, or have you even thought of any?

This happens with almost every ordinance passed at city hall, fyi. That is what the public comment period generally achieves over the course of three meetings. Laws are amended with public input.

- criminal charges for workplace discrimination is absurd
- as such it'll become a burden on employers as they fear firing the wrong person. It then becomes a he said she said. No business person wants to deal with that.
- you have 2 finalist for a job, gay and straight. Who do you think they'd hire to not risk facing criminal discrimination charges?
- if a white, straight male doesn't get a job they weren't qualified. If a gay person doesn't its discrimination. And gays are an angry, vengeful and intolerant group as a whole. Significantly more like to press charges or get pissed off.
- I've talked to several business owners that plan to move office locations north
- as previously mentioned, someone posing as transgender now has access to women's restrooms or other places such as gym locker rooms. People are weird, I'm sure this will have consequences. Who is going to decide who is transgender?? It's a mindset.
- every redshirt that spoke last night mentioned being beaten up for their beliefs. There are already laws for that. How does this ordinance change that.
- they are going to appoint 1 person to oversee this. Bad idea no one person should have that power to make those determinations.

Let the people vote. If the majority of Fayetteville wants to support this crap I'll pack my things and move. I shouldn't have my beliefs infringed upon because we have gays on the city council.

Heaven forbid we place "burdens" (as if that would even be a burden) on those poor, suffering employers

By all accounts, frick employees

No one gives a flying frick about your beliefs. You can hate gays all you want. I'll call you a dumbass but it's your right to feel that. However your beliefs don't give you the right to infringe on others' rights.

I have actually, friends that own businesses, ones not bound by location or customer base, and yes there already looking at options to move locations.

There is no irony. I don't support gays, but if you want to be gay that's fine. But don't start asking for special treatment or rights any different than mine. Which is exactly what this is.

From the tone and anger of your posts I'm guessing your a redshirt. As I said, they are very angry at the world and intolerant if you don't support their beliefs.

Sorry if I don't want Jim turned Jane with a penis sharing public women designated spaces with my wife or daughter.

You have to really, really hate gay people to start looking into moving your business due to this ordinance. Under this ordinance, the maximum penalty for a proven (as in beyond a reasonable doubt) case of discrimination against gays is $500. It is treated basically the same as a zoning infraction, like running a business out of your house in a residential area.

There is no state statute backing this law up, ergo, no higher court to appeal to and no case law to point to for a civil suit.

Your friends who own businesses sound uninformed, bigoted, or both.
