Why should we care how the rest of the country views us? We're South Carolinians.

Because perception = $. It's great that we've been able to land the BMWs and the Boeings of the world to come to our state but what about our athletic teams getting hosed on hosting? I don't think the NCAA should be interfering with such things but they do, and it costs the school.

Anyway, I can understand acknowledging history. I can understand that people are proud that their ancestors fought to protect their homes from invader and not to protect slavery (although anyone who doesn't think the Civil War was started because of slavery needs to read the secession papers of the CSA) With that said, that CSA flag that flew on the state house and now on the state house grounds wasn't put up during the Civil War. Do people really think we just put one up during the Civil War and the Union just let it fly up there when they took Columbia? No. It was taken down. And then a new one was put up? Why? Because our politicians wanted to show to the world that we were pro-segregation.

People may fly the Confederate flag for whatever reason, but that flag on the state house grounds was flown as a symbol of racism but the story has since been changed to state pride.
