@CecilHurt: Today's column on the ever-increasing outbreak of Tuscaloosa quarterback angst. LINK

quote:

Both of the contending quarterbacks, Blake Sims and Jake Coker, got equal time running the first offense. Neither did so at 100 percent efficiency. Saban used a word he has used a lot this month — “consistency” — and added another virtual synonym when he said the offense “never got into a rhythm” under either quarterback. He did note Sims, who has been at Alabama for four years, was “playing faster” than Coker. That isn’t unexpected, given the experience level. But what we were left with was a wait-and-see.

“Until somebody wins the job,” Saban said, “we aren’t going to make that decision.”

3. Some Alabama fans — not all — have been waiting 50 years for the next Namath, and some of those expect that prodigy to step full-blown onto the practice field and into Heisman Trophy contention. Yes, it can happen with a Johnny Manziel or a Jameis Winston (although both had redshirt years under their belt before starting.) But it doesn’t happen often. Nonetheless, the lack of a coronation ceremony worries a decent-sized segment of the fan base.

They need to change the name of these forums to AlabamaRant.com

All Alabama, all the time.

Half these guys don't even know what just happened in their own teams practice but can recite everything that happened yesterday in Alabama's.

Saban's comments are similar to what he said about Fall practice 2011.

I've been trying to tell them they're going to suck this year.

Malzahn 2-0 over Saban bookmark it.

Well what the hell was AJ? His last name isn't Namath but he was a 3 time national champion.

Both QBs looked decent during the scrimmage. There were a lot of tipped balls and dropped passes by the WRs yesterday. Yeah, Sims and Coker both had their share of mistakes - mainly forcing balls into places where they shouldn't have - but all of that is correctable. I have no doubt that whoever the QB is this year will end up doing a good job during the regular season.

It's the offensive line that is the true question mark. The DL was after the QBs all game long and the RBs could not run the football for shite.

Coker would actually tuck the ball and run with it when he got bull rushed but that doesn't show on his stats because as soon as he started to run with it the whistle would blow the play dead.

QB is definitely not a position of concern for me.
