Why do you have a problem with someone spending their hard earned money the way they wish?
Posted on 8/16/14 at 3:06 pm to Phat Phil
I could give a shite about what people want to do with their money if it is legal.
But, as a hunter since I was 5, I have never understood why anyone would want to shoot a elephant.
DGAF but just dont understand it

I have to agree with OP. I'm all about killing animals for consumption or population control, but to kill them just for the sake of killing them is bullshite.

Chipper Jones loves this shite. He's always posting on twitter about some hunt or other he is on.
A year or two ago I had to go to Europe for business regularly and the flight would land back into Atlanta about the same time as the South African Airways flight from Joburg would. I'd stand in line with all these guys and some women who would all be on their way homes from safari's. many times they would have gun cases. (ATL is unique because you have to collect your bags then recheck them at customs for domestic connections.)

I know what you're trying to say but it's my habit to be against bleeding heart websites so...

There's no way you agree with this nonsense.
So long as hunters are responsible and good stewards of the environment, they should be free to do what they will.

You're a shite stain if you hunt illegally. There's hunting restrictions in place for a reason.

I hope those dudes get shot while standing in their front yard.

There should be a worldwide ban on trophy hunting and whaling IMHO.
Elephants, ... all African big game mammals for that matter. There's zero reason for it.
One of the biggest big game hunters in the world lives just across the lake from me. He's always on the shows killing something with a Jarret Rifle, which are made a couple of miles from here. He's a little duck midget who does it to make him feel like a man.
And whaling should be outlawed. Whaling is criminal IMHO.
If I hunt it I'm gonna eat it and thank the animal for what he gives us in the process.
Bears should be left the frick alone too. Unless they are nussance bears ... usually made so because of our trash and encroaching ....there is no need to hunt bears.
I'm pro hunting. Whitetail, Mulies, Elk, Moose, Caribou, I've hunted them all. Squirrels, rabbits, ducks, quail ... I quit killing doves because it got too easy.
Just killed some coyotes the other night. Killed a big pig a couple of weeks ago and fed him to the dogs.
But killing for trophies is wrong IMHO. Screw the African economy argument.

I shot a bear once and she laid there bellowing like a human for what seemed like eternity until she died. I won't ever kill another one. I've hunted my whole life and am good with killing all the traditional game but that bothered me. We did butcher it, though, and gave the meat to a needy family.

If I was a serial killer, my trophies would be the trigger fingers of trophy hunters.

Obviously opinions vary on what type of hunting is ethical. Most of the hunting I have done involves consumption of the game I kill but from time-to-time I have done some predator hunting and fur-bearer hunting as well which does not involve eating the animal.
And then you have arguments as to what is considered "sporting" entering the debate as well and the line drawing becomes difficult. I suppose a lot of it depends on the individual.
I do think pen hunting of tame animals is wrong and these videos and story are revolting to me. LINK. An apology was subsequently given. LINK

FYI.........every ounce of meat is eaten from the animals killed on those trips. The first time I taped an elephant kill for television, we had followed this bull for several miles on foot. Once the kill was made, we had to backtrack to get the jeep.
When we returned, the native trackers were no where to be found. We were beginning to get worried when someone heard noises coming from inside the dead elephant.
The trackers had already cut their way into the arse of the elephant and were getting ready to "jerk" the entrails. They spend the next two days, removing every bit of that bull and returning it to their village.
One of the trackers said it would help feed their village for several weeks. Don't fall for that BS that these animals are killed, skinned and left for the buzzards. It's simply not true

Damn rich white people
I'm sure it's been brought up by now but most if not all of these hunts are sactioned by the local country's version of parks service/ game warden. They single out animals that have either become problematic to other ones in the park or are old and need to be culled. All of the meat is donated to local people, and all the money raised from the auction to be able to go on the hunt is used to support anti-poaching efforts and or conservation.

While I wouldn't do it, elephants are overpopulated in certain parts of africa.
