They were ranked #4 one time.
Preseason #11 with Houston Nutt as coach. We moved up to 4 because everyone in front of us lost a game before we did. We finished the season with 9 wins and ranked #20. We win the egg bowl and we finish exactly how the experts predicted us to do in the preseason.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for the Rebs to finish high in the West this year.
LSU is probably going to fall off a bit with all of their losses, A&M has lost virtually every star player they had the past 2 years, Arkansas is a joke in shoulder pads, and both Alabama & Auburn are missing some big pieces from a year ago.
I do think Mississippi State might have an even BETTER year, but then again, they have Dan Mullen as a coach, and he's the sorriest son of a bitch to coach against ranked opponents I've ever seen. That #WeBelieve game was the hardest I've ever chuckled in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
In summation, a "down" west, a third year coach on the rise, elite talent on both sides of the ball, and a very favorable schedule which dodges every hard opponent in the East is reason for optimism.
My only gripe with Ole Miss is I think Bo Wallace is a very overrated quarterback, with a less than stellar skill-set. Mind you, I think Dak Prescott is the best QB in the SEC this year.
