Its not bad parenting. its a sad defacto result of failed marriages.
I don't know. Some in here have said it's done to go see grandparents. I said earlier I couldn't imagine doing it, but I live 4 miles from my parents, and about 70 from the in-laws. If we moved, it could be a different story.

I lived halfway across the country from my grandparents and it was a lot to ask of them to fly down to Texas to see us every year. The airlines really do a great job of taking care of kids flying alone. I'm sure my parents were scared shitless but it was that or not see my grandparents as often

It's incredibly safe. Seriously, when have you ever read the headline "Airline loses child under their watch"? I don't think I've ever seen that, and no airline wants to be the first to do it. Plus even if the kid is lost, it's not likely that he/she will be abducted from the airport. They'll likely have the common sense to go to the information desk or a restaurant, and then they'll get them to where they need to be.

any Gen Xer's in here? If this is considered bad parenting I had the worst parent's on earth. Of course when I was flying solo parents could walk you to the gate and family could be waiting at the gate when you got off the plane.
