The "little brother" thing is more a of cultural or social jab at Auburn.
You have the flagship professional school versus the "cow college". While oversimplifying greatly, Alabama is historically the white collar/professional school for the state. It's the same thing you see with Michigan-MSU, Texas-Texas A&M, UVA-VaTech, Ole Miss- MS State, UNC-NC State.
