They changed the recipe a few years ago...it is half what it was.

Bourbon neat. Tailgating, I usually go with something cheap knowing it will be stolen and mixed. Generally go Four Roses or Trace.

Watching at home, I'll just grab what I'm in the mood for from my collection. It's probably going to be on the lines of the Jefferson's line(preferably their new Ocean), Four Roses line(preferably LE Small Batch), Elmer T, Eagle Rare, Willett's Pot Still, etc..

Mixing is for 18 year olds.

This may be true if you're enjoying bourbon or scotch. I enjoy either. But I also like clear liquor especially in spring and summer. If I'm at the country club drinking, I enjoy drinking a gin and tonic. If I'm in a hotel bar, I'll have a vodka martini.

Don't knock the art of the mix.

Mixing is for cheap stuff or rum, vodka, etc. There's nothing wrong with pounding an Old Chater and 7UP, or a Dark & Stormy.

Pound some mang-o-rita and raz-ber-ita's for a few hours.

Follow it up with some jager bombs.

Then some Keystone Ice to cleanse thy palate.

I agree, neat is the only way to go. I disagree that Jack is shite though. It's not my first choice, but Gentleman Jack is damn good. My first choices are Dickle #12 or Pritchards Tennessee whiskey or their double barrel.

I only drink Bourbon as a change of pace from Scotch and Irish whiskey, so I don't claim to have a wide experience to compare, but I have to agree on Four Roses. That is a very nice Bourbon for the price. It's a solid step above Maker's, yet not so expensive that I'm asking myself "why didn't I buy a single malt?" after every sip.

If it's still warm, I'll go with Weihenstephaner Vitus

Late September, I'll go with Southern Tier Pumking Ale

Late October (TSIO), I'll go with Makers on the rocks w/ a nice victory cigar.

I'll never forget the time I hosted a poker game and one of the guests started mixing Macallan 12 with orange soda.

It took about 20 seconds to "discreetly" get that Macallan back in the cabinet and bring out the Dewer's.
