Well, I agree with all of that. I am telling you what I have observed from many others though over the course of lifetime of living in the South.

Others have observed this as well. When I say "we" and "us," I am identifying with Southerners and not saying that I agree with the sentiment.

Obviously, there are many who show respect for the right reasons and are MANY good people in the South. I am simply talking about the dynamic when/where it occurs. Not all hospitality is really because you care about the person. Much of it is because that "is what good people do."

A well armed society, is a polite society.
This doesn't necessarily have to include firearms either. The readiness to fight at the first sign of an insult plays a big part in Southern Culture.
