That graph is accurate in my opinion.
LSS:
I went to NY with a bias against Yankees. Got into a heated discussion with a cabby while I was trying to get from the airport to the train.
He got a better fare and asked me to get out. I was almost sitting at the time.
I released all my bias with every 4, 5 and 6 letter word I could muster. It had zero affect on him. He just went about his work.
They are different up there and being rude to one another is not really being rude.
Down here, drop all those insults on someone and you now have a heated discussion, if not a fight, on your hands.
I was shocked.

In the South, we say "excuse me" to mean "I'm sorry I'm being a bother, but can you please move so I can get through?"
In the North, they say "excuse me" to mean "Get out of my way you lazy pathetic sack of shite!!!!"
In the South, we say "yes, sir/m'am" as a show of respect.
The the South, they say "yes sir/m'am" as a sarcastic term of derision to say "Whatever you say you old, dirt bag piece of shite! I'll stab you in your sleep!!!"
In the South, "can I have that, please?" means "can you please do me the favor of inconveniencing yourself to help me?"
In the North, it means "Hand me that now! I have no patience to wait on you, you inconsiderate arse-hole!"
If you hold a door open for a girl in the South, she will assume you are trying to do something nice for her.
If you hold a door open for a girl in the North, she will think that you don't think she's capable of opening her own door. "Wow, look at the BIG STRONG MAN providing for his POOR WEAK GIRL! I CAN DO IT MYSELF! I DON'T NEED YOU OR ANY OTHER MAN! YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN ME?! YOUR NOT! YOUR GAAAAAAHBAGE! YOU HEAR ME? GAAAHBAGE!"
