He came in in 1995 and promptly turned your program around. Taking a team that finished 4-7 in 1994 and making them 7-4-1 in 1995. He then went 10-2 in 1996 and 9-3 in 1997,

Being too loyal to Lou Tepper ultimately cost him his job. Gerry wasn't a great coach but he was decent, hell of a nice guy and a great person though.
Sums it up very nicely.

Had to be the smarted guy in the room. When he realized Watts and Reese both knew the game better, he got major uptight. Replaced them with Lou Effing Tepper and Bob McConnell, who he had coordinating the offense, coaching Quarterbacks and also coaching Wide Receivers. Somehow.
He did not recruit NOLA and hid in Joe Dean's back pocket when the shite show he turned his staff into came home to roost.
Talked a good game. All hat. Very little cattle.

Duh.
He was dreaming of one day coaching the mighty Birmingham Thunderbolts of the XFL.
Everyone know that.

Dinardo is actually a very underrated coach. The problem was his coordinators left (one of which joined Saban at Michigan State) and our AD at the time was such a tight arse with money that he didn't give Dinardo the cash to go out and get top notch replacements.
fortunately this would never happen now. Mark Emmert became president of LSU in 1999 and promptly started pumping money into the football program for the first time in 15 years.
All the "credit" the gumps want to give Saban really should go to Emmert. he is the real person responsible for bringing LSU athletics out of the stone age. The foundation he set with TAF and the commitment the AD's office is expected to make is still the "culture" that is rolling today.

Yeah, Saban had nothing to do with it.

he played a part for 5 years, but as of today, no he doesn't have anything to do with it.
believe it or not, LSU managed to win a few games before he came along and the environment he came into at LSU in 2000, a sleeping giant investing in their program fro the first time in 15 years, was the perfect platform for Saban.
I know you drooling idiots want to give him credit for everything since the building of the pyramids, but he doesn't deserve any credit beyond what happened from 2000-2004. Even if he had never come around, LSU would still have come out of our funk and we would still be rolling today just as much as we are and that's a fact no matter how much you don't want to hear it.
I was actually working in the LSU Athletics Department at the time, but go ahead thinking you know more about what went on than I do

Who do you think got Saban?
Emmert should be credited with more than Saban IMO. Both were great for us, but money wins and Emmert brought us money to pay better coaches (like Saban), better facilities, etc.
Really brought us into a modern program.

and he ended up getting 3 (LSU in 2004, Dolphins in 2005 and Bama in 2007) absolutely MASSIVE contracts based solely on what he had done at LSU. He did a lot of great things for LSU but LSU did a lot of good for his career as well but these ALERBAMER fans just can't comprehend anything dear leader doesn't feed them.

In 1998, LSU went 4-7.
We lost 5 games within a one score margin. Team could have been 9-2 with a competent defense.

Ha...yeah right.
DiNardo's 99 recruits included the following:
-Trev Faulk/Brady James - Probably the best linebacking duo in LSU history. James just retired from the NFL last year.
-Chad Lavalais - All American and National Defensive Player of the Year in Saban's first NC. He was originally offered by DiNardo twice before finally qualifying when Saban arrived. So maybe he's technically a Saban recruit since he didn't qualify under DiNardo. But still...
-Domanick Davis/LaBrandon Toefield - Great RBs for LSU and both were drafted by the NFL
Donnie Jones - LSU's best punter ever - drafted and still playing today for the Eagles!
John Corbello - One of LSU's best kickers ever
Also, DiNardo recruited Josh Reed in 98 (became LSU's best WR ever and broke just about all the SEC records) and Rohan Davey a year earlier (who Saban ended up riding to an SEC Championship and Sugar Bowl win). Bama fans remember both of them well from that year - both were drafted.
DiNardo did himself in with Lou Tepper. Dumbest scheme I've ever seen... DiNardo apparently had micromanagement issues that messed up his staff and he deserved what he got for the Tepper hire. He had it rolling for a while though and created some great memories.
