Listen, don't try and belittle yourselves, if offering a project TE to replace a project TE quitter is all it takes to "big boy" you guys, then sure, we did. I thought we were talking about Bama though, not some bunch of pushover pussies that can't hang for prospect without breaking out the wallet like AU or OM.

Does this improve your chances with someone else on your board?

No. It's just standard fan behavior when they might lose a recruit. UGA fans do it too.

If you have paid attention to this recruitment from Alabama fans side you would understand it is a just do it and get it over with stance more than a shite lost a good player stance. He can be replaced .

I have. It's similar to when Derrick Henry decommitted from UGA in terms of the fan treatment of the situation.

I can see the comparison but DH was a whole lot bigger loss than JL will be. Skill position losses hurt.

It's not exactly the same, but the reaction is very similar. With UGA, the line was "he's probably going to play defense, he doesn't have a position, we'll get Kamara and/Jones now, etc." Now with Alabama, it's "he's easily replaced, not that good, etc."

Fans convince themselves of whatever they need to to rationalize a loss. It's not rocket science and it's not limited to any fan base.

I actually don't agree totally with that. Yes skill positions losses seem to hurt more only because they are more visible and more covered by media. In the SEC teams are obviously built in the trenches. Every OL or DL player lost, hurts just as much as a high profiled skilled position player.

I compare this situation to how our fans felt about Stephen Roberts, Auburn safety, at the time of his decommitment from Bama last year. It was ridiculous how many times he was visiting Auburn while claiming to be 100% committed. We had some thoughts of a possible backup plan, but nothing set in stone. Just ready to get it over with and move on to the next.

As it turns out we ended up with a much better player in Tony Brown. I am confident that the Bama coaches will replace Ledbetter with someone just as good if not better. I have a small list of commits that I would be butthurt about if they went anywhere else, and Ledbetter is not on that list.

I'm not saying anybody should be butthurt about it or anything, but the "I hope he flips" party line is exactly typical of a fan reaction to an expected flip.

I agree. I think he will be a good player and would like hin to stay in the class but the Leo Lewis decommit is the one I am butthurt over.

Me too. Leo Lewis was on that list.

Others include Ridley (I'd have an astronomical level of butthurt if he flipped) Minkah, Cotton, Thompson, and Barnett.

This. Exactly this. Once it came out that Rivers flipped, Patrick committed, everyone knew Ledbetter would hop on board.

I'm glad that you pointed out yesterday on the SECr that Ole Miss was doing the same thing with Tunsil.

Erybody is doing it.
