Are you nuts? He has arguably more competition than any other program in the South. Just because Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, FLorida, and FSU don't all carry Georgia addresses doesn't mean UGA doesn't have to constantly compete against them both in recruiting and as an athletic department in general. You're fooling yourself if you think an imaginary border matters frickall in this rat race of college athletics.

Valid point but I still maintain you have a different outlook of Richt if Georgia Tech was winning ACC Titles and making more noise nationally. As it stands right now, you own them and therefore own the state. For recruits it's either play for UGA or leave the state altogether. There's not much in between.

Those players wanting to leave the state would still leave. And unfortunately a lot of them are very open to leaving the state.

It's not like Murray, Stafford, Gurley, Marshall, Knowshon, and AJ Green didn't come from Out of state.

Recruiting has never been and never will be the problem at UGA.

Yet, they are 3rd or 4th on our list of "rivals."
Keep in mind, when it comes to Florida, Tennessee, GT, USCe, and Auburn, Richt has done well against each at times....usually just not all in the SAME year.

You are stupid if you think GT has ANYTHING to do with our recruiting over teams like UF, Auburn, USCe, and Tennessee.

Tech won the ACC back in 2009 and hasn't been the complete level of dogshit they have been of late. But if they were doing well, it'd only be another name on the endless list of rival programs that we always feel a need to one-up. There is no lack of drive in the fanbase or program to be the best; there is only a disagreement as to how we should get there. From the outside, fans believe that we need to emulate Alabama and constantly build bigger and better facilities in order to wage more successful battles in recruiting. From the inside, the powers that be are trying to stay the course and run the program responsibly using the philosophy they have had since 2001 when Richt came on. Since Pruitt arrived, there have already been a lot of modernizations of the old model with regards to hiring a ton of support staff and how practices are run. Rumors are that the Strength staff is next to be overhauled, and even then players have been very vocal about how much the summer routines have changed/improved since the new defensive staff was brought in.

That's not true at all, unfortunately. Georgia is not a state that can be won by any one team, including the home base. UGA can win MOST of the state by performing well on the field, but it will never lock down the state like Bama/Auburn can Alabama and LSU can Louisiana. This is a state in which 75% of the population is concentrated in the metro Atlanta area and the vast majority of that population was not born or raised here. What state loyalty exists does so mostly in middle and south GA and in parts of North GA (and in that case, the topography lends itself more to UTk feeling like home as compared to UGA).
