One loose cannon teacher and the entire country would want to ban guns. I definatly understand the need because teachers especially in high school are under a constant threat.

Not just highschool; my wife taught at an 'inner city' middle school (7th grade) for one year and that was enough. She had kids threaten to follow her to her car, and all sorts of other things. She doesn't want to carry a gun, but she does want the principal or willing teachers to carry.

I never felt the need to carry before I did a tour in the sandbox; now I feel much less comfortable without one.
