So is that a yes or a no on the over the counter IV bags? I feel like we never got an actual answer.

I'm pretty sure that's a no go. I tried this a few years ago after a horrible stomach illness to no avail. If you have the catheter you may be able to get fluids from a vet. They rarely ask many questions.
