I'd say he would have gone about 5-7. Malzahn stepped into a turn key operation at Auburn. Most of the players on hand had been recruited to play in his system. I think this was a big factor in his being hired. He could have success at Arkansas but it wouldn't be an overnight thing.

hiring a coach from the B1G >>>> hiring a coach from the sun belt

Hiring a B1G coach = Hiring a sun belt coach. Its not like Wisconsin put up a fight to keep him. In this case hiring Gus >>>>>>>>>>>> Bert.

Not even a wizard like Malzahn could put out that dumpster fire.

You can't seriously claim just because you hired a coach from a bigger name conference means you made the smarter hire either. Plus its not like the B1G is a powerhouse anymore.

I think Gus would lead Arky to at least 6 wins with the added bonus that they would have at least been competitive in their losses.

I think there are 8 or 9 coaches in this league that could have taken Arky to a bowl game last year.

They're just stuck with an absolute bottom barrel coach right now.

These guys would have gotten at least six wins.

Mullen
Freeze
Saban
Spurrier
Sumlin
Malzahn
Miles

What would you have done different? Remember Brandon Allen and AJ Derby are your QBs

Well if Gus was at Arkansas, then it is not a stretch to think that Nick Marshall ends up at arky also.

Petrino didn't take us to one his first year with similar talent. Would he not be a top 8 or 9 coach?

it looks better on paper but these scenarios are not in a vacuum. Gus isn't just a "sun belt coach", he has a ring.

Bobby had Arkie flying high, the talent was not as bare as y'all think. Gus would have won 7, one of those would have been that he would have best Auburn.

How many games would Bert had won at Auburn? My guess is 4. Gus won 12.

“They are going to be terrible. What they are doing now, it’s the product of bad recruiting. They have a long ways to go. That’s nothing against the new coaching staff. But they are going to be terrible in Year 1. I think they’ll struggle up front, they’ll struggle in the secondary, the linebackers should be average. It’s going to take them three years to get a good foundation. It’s a product of bad recruiting – which is typical of Bobby Petrino. It’s the same thing that happened at Louisville that got Steve Kragthorpe fired. Petrino didn’t leave him any players. It’s the same thing at Arkansas. They have no players on defense…I think the young running back, Jonathan Williams, is going to be good for them.”

Remember what the opposing coaches said anonymously about the Hogs going into last season?

Arkansas
Opposing coaches size up the Razorbacks:

“They are going to be terrible. What they are doing now, it’s the product of bad recruiting. They have a long way to go. That’s nothing against the new coach (Bret Bielema). But they are going to be terrible in Year 1." ...

"They are really going to struggle. What happened was they had eight starters who got injured, and they were fighting an uphill battle all of last year. I think they’ll struggle up front, they’ll struggle in the secondary, the linebackers should be average." …

"They are going to be slim in a lot of spots. It’s going to take them three years to get a good foundation. It’s a product of bad recruiting — which is typical of a Bobby Petrino school. It’s the same thing that happened at Louisville that got Steve Kragthorpe fired. Petrino didn’t leave him any players. It’s the same thing at Arkansas. They have no players on defense. Petrino would load up on offense and leave the cupboard bare. That’s why he can’t ever get over the hump." …

"If you want to be competitive in the SEC, you better have big, strong defensive linemen, physical guys, and lockdown corners. If you don’t have that, you don’t have a chance. And right now they don’t have that." …

"I don’t know really how good they are up front offensively, but I’m kind of skeptical based on what I know."

"I think the young running back, Jonathan Williams, is going to be good for them. We liked him out of high school.”

spot on. as usual. What everyone forgets is that when we had Malzahn as our OC everyone made fun of it. Now he's the fair haired girl...flavor of the month and were behind the curve...

Malzahn could have had a flying Steve Young as quarterback and wouldn't have won another game!

If Auburn and Arkansas were trading coaches then I think it is pretty clear that the game against Auburn would have been a W for the Hogs.
