What happened in the SEC Championship game? Y'all had really only one close games that season (Arkansas). I fully bought in that, with Tim Tebow, that Florida would win 3 in the past 4 years. Alabama fully dominated that game. It wasn't really a contest.

Was the Florida team just not that great that year compared to the '08 team? It's a shame that y'all were rewarded with powerhouse Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl.

My father in law is a Florida grad. After that year, him, and most other Florida fans, realized Percy Harvin was more of the true freak/game changing player then Tim Tebow was.

Correct.

The 08 team was better. Alabama got better. shite happens. Meyer was checking out. That's the biggest problem in my estimation.

Reasons:

1. Steve Addazio
2. Steve Addazio
3. Steve Addazio
4. Percy Harvin
5. Carlos Dunlap

Steve Addazio ran that offense into the ground with his stupid calls.

I'm constantly surprised at how many people on this site consider 09 UF to be one of the "greatest" teams ever.

EDIT: If I recall correctly, Addazio abandoned the run game in the SECCG after the first Q, after UF had decent success running the ball, and he put it all on Tebow's hands throwing it, and obviously that didn't work.

Bama opened up the passing game instead of playing ball control with the run like they had all season. This caught UF off guard and by the time they started to adjust, it was pretty much over. UF missing a couple of their best players didn't help their chances much either.

The biggest problem with the 09 SECCG was that the team was senior heavy and a good portion of them went on coast prior to the FSU game. When you play not to get hurt and don't put forth the effort then you get beat by the hungrier team. This is the reason for Tebow's tears at that game. He had been riding the seniors for several weeks to pick it up and they just quit on the team.

you do know that riley cooper with intent reached out and pulled chevis Jackson's jersey allowing riley cooper to catch a tim tebow heave for a touchdown against LSU.

But as with Auburn 2004 and Auburn 2006, the refs didn't want the red headed stepchild LSU to win.

Or did you forget about that part of Florida's 2009 season.

They really missed Muffin that season. I had the pleasure of staying at pat dye's hunting camp LSU weekend in 2010. He told us (quite a few drinks in) that urban Meyer has never called a play in his life. Obviously that's a tad hyperbolic, but the message we took away from it is that muffin is the mastermind behind his success. He also said some really crazy shite about tubberville that was entirely inappropriate

Alabama was up 19-13 at the half. Even when we went up 32-13 I wasn't comfortable with the lead until Javy's interception in the end zone with like 7 minutes left.

Alabama's improvements in the front 7 and in the secondary helped. Then also, a much more aggressive approach from Jim McElwain on offense that year. That and McElroy played the game of his life.

Florida was better in '08 though. Better team chemistry, Mullen was a good OC, and Louis Murphy was also an underrated WR. Harvin didn't play in the '08 SECCG.

Discipline issues led to team breakdown-- the whole team was playing super, super tight and the Dunlap was suspended. They didn't play loose until the Sugar Bowl, ironically if Florida loses the Arkansas game I think they probably win the SEC title and national title games.

Oh and Steve Addazio, if we had Mullen that probably flips the game, our offense became exponentially less creative without Mullen as the OC (Percy was huge but remember Florida won big without Percy for decent parts of the 08 title run-- including against Bama in the SEC title game).
