If money wasn't that important to him, he would still be the coach at Michigan State. Joe Paterno was a coach that wasn't concerned with money. His salary was just over a million a year upon his retirement. Saban has been one of the top 5 paid coaches in football since 2000.
Because there's no way someone with relatively young children and less than 10 years as a head coach might change their priorities after having a stint in the NFL, winning 4 national titles, getting incredibly wealthy, and becoming a grandfather.
