Appeals court upholds 10% rule in Texas university admissions.
The University of Collin County at Fayetteville will keep taking them, I guess.
ETA: Please move to OTB. Sorry.

Not SEC Rant material. That is about Texas, we lack their admission policy.

Alabama takes plenty of them as well.

They didn't really uphold the Top 10% rule - they upheld UT-Austin's ability to use race as part of their "holistic" admissions review for applicants not admitted under the Top 10% rule.
The top 10% rule was actually the Legislature's reaction to the 1996 Hopwood ruling but the US 5th Circuit COA that disallowed using race as a factor for admission to Texas public universities (which was subsequently abrogated by SCOTUS in the Michigan case).
I wonder if the in-state tuition deal for TX students (or at least highly-qualified TX students) at neighboring state universities started around 1997-1998. I agree with those here saying this has actually been beneficial to both the students and the neighboring states.

Making the SEC douchier since whenever the hell w signed it.
Texans are all over the SEC. We have over 1k at Ole Miss. Tennessee, Georgia, and Louisiana round out the top 5.

I guess this helps explain the surge in Texas kids in Tuscaloosa the last several years. I know Bama recruited Texas heavily for students, but this dumb rule probably has something to do with it too.

I knew plenty of rich dumb suburban kids that went to Arkansas. Plano West 07, my year didn't have a ton, but 08 did. Quite a few good looking ones too. A girl who was friends with my girlfriend probably made a lot of piggies happy in her run.

Nice to see that "diversity" is valued over academic achievement. I'm not hearing any complaints about the over representation of blacks in football. Maybe the 5'11"/200 lb. slow white kid should sue Saban for not offering him a scholarship at defensive tackle. If racial diversity and proper numerical representation are valued over performance, then why not?
