Exactly.

The flip side is that us playing them allows them access to our substantial SEC exposure, which they kinda need as they threw away all that brand momentum from 2005 into the black hole they call the LHN.

Also by playing us that gives their schedule a little boost (which might help them in the playoff hunt), but it REALLY gives their home schedule a boost. That is their biggest problem right now- their big game is in Dallas annually and the rest of the conference is considered shite nationally. Eventually the casual fans aren't going to pay big bucks for Iowa St. and Kansas at home, especially when LSU, Bama and Auburn are right down the road.

We can play Texas or not, as long as it isn't on TDay weekend. I don't care about hurting/helping them I only care about how it affects us. There are benefits to the game for us but we don't need it either. If/when the game does come back though it will be very different and less of a gamechanger than most people realize if it is early in the year. It won't affect conference races and realistically it won't have a big impact on the Playoff compared to how both teams play out their seasons, it would be more like an exhibition. It's still a long way of either way.

As to the OP, Sumlin is speaking to guys like Mack and making sure that DL recruits know how important they are to him. He doesn't have to sell QB/WR/OL to come to A&M but he is still trying to lock up more and more defensive talent because he knows that is the key to trophies.

Texas does produce some quality DL every year but only a handful, he has to clean up on it (which he is) and get some OOS guys on occasion. Mainly he needs a few of these highly recruited defensive players to make it to the league so he can point to them.
