1. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina

2. Gus Malzahn, Auburn
3. Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M
4. Les Miles, LSU
5. Gary Pinkel, Missouri
6. Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss

7. Mark Richt, Georgia
8. Nick Saban, Alabama
9. Butch Jones, Tennessee
10. Bret Bielema, Arkansas
11. Will Muschamp, Florida
12. Mark Stoops, Kentucky
13. Dan Mullen, Mississippi State
14. Derek Mason, Vanderbilt

quote:

here's the setup: wins are important in this system, but they're only one piece of a three-part score. The rest is divided equally between the on-field entertainment value of the coaches' teams and the media interaction/entertainment value of the coach himself. Highest single-category score is 3 points.

Les at 4

I'll give them Spurrier but no way in hell are Gus and Sumlin more entertaining than Les

Les Miles should be higher, mainly because of his gaffs, which are always entertaining.

Saban should be lower, like last on the list, he manages to find a way to suck all entertainment and joy out of life.

The fact that Les Miles is 4th, makes this list complete shite. Les & OBC are definitely #1 & #2 as far as entertainment purposes are concerned.

I guess they look at Gus and think isn't that a offense they run in high school, now that's funny.

Oh that explains everything in that article. You can tell he's butthurt about something. He always poked a little jab whenever he can at Alabama for what reason I don't know

The only thing I don't really understand is why Malzahn has the same amount of points for wins that Saban does, and more than Miles does. I understand Malzahn took over a Gene Chizik team and led them to the title game, but Saban has clearly done more so far. Only other complaint is that I find Muschamp entertaining. What he puts on the field can be pretty abysmal on offense, but that defense plays hard and he is a pretty crazy person himself.

For people complaining...afaict, the ranks are a synthesis of personal ability to be entertaining and the entertainment factor of watching their teams. The Mad Hatter, for instance, doesn't run the high-octane offenses that Sumlin and Malzahn run, even though his occasional inspired calls and total fricking brain farts on the field can be entertaining. So I think 4th is fair by their criteria. Though I think their criteria are messed up. I tend to think people who worship at the altar of fast offenses and mediocre defenses are mostly teenagers and casual fans who can't appreciate good intelligent football on both sides of the ball.

Writer isn't to fond of Bielma
quote:

I probably shouldn't, but I gave Bielma some credit for his Wisconsin success.

Otherwise, the guy's making a strong case for bumping Mason out of the 14 hole. What an unmitigated disaster. He's whined constantly about everything since arriving in the league and generally behaved like a child whenever Gus Malzahn said anything.

I gave him some credit for stirring the pot, but even Arkansas fans wish he'd stop.
