Agree? Disagree?

2. Texas
4. Louisiana
8. Tennessee
9. Kentucky
12. Missouri
14. Alabama
15. Georgia
19. Mississippi
24. Florida
25. South Carolina
37. Arkansas

Criteria:

quote:

we ranked states by the food/drink available in that state, focusing on four key questions:
1) What did they produce (beef, oranges, ugh, sorghum?),
2) What iconic items were they known for (key lime pie? onion burgers?),
3) What is their beer/wine/spirits production like (great breweries/wineries?), and finally
4) What is the food/drink scene like in their cities?

There is absolutely no way that alabama, kentucky, tennessee, and probably missouri should be ahead of Georgia.

Disagree because of this:

quote:

But Arkansas lacks the dominant iconic Southern foods of literally all their neighbors to the South.

Then it goes on to list pimiento cheese, fried okra, hush puppies, etc.

Da frick? We eat that stuff here like crazy. We're not big grit-eaters, at least not west and north of Little Rock, but the rest of that is kinda bullshite. And I've never heard of "Possum Pie" until this little ranking. WTF? And we have more local breweries in Fayetteville alone than several other southern states have total.

Makes no sense, considering the heavy Texas influence on the food in the western half of the state. If Texas is that great (which is arguable) then Arkansas is top 10 at least.

3 and 4 are the only ones that should matter for a competition like this, IMO.

Missouri seems to get a lot of credit for KC BBQ. I have no idea if that's warranted or not, so I can't really knock their spot. But I want to. That said, everyone bitching about KY being so high needs to do 2 things. 1) read the criteria, and 2) deal with the fact that we eat and drink better than you (except you, TX, LA, and apparently TN).

Ridiculous. So absurd.

Tennessee has awesome food, but thats too high because other than BBQ its not native to the state.

Mississippi and South Carolina should both be much higher.
