Same thing with the screen passes that never stopped working in the SC game.
Once DC makes a plan that's it. Doesn't matter how bad it's going or well something else is working.
Must be the ex marine in him

Also SC had auburn beat at home during the regular season until Garcia got KOd and played the rest of the game cross eyed.
Look at the stats closer. Auburn was handling USCe but unable to pull away. USCe deserves the credit for fighting on. Auburn 2nd half turnovers kept it closer than it should have been. The SECCG was a better reflection of the statistical imbalance of the first game.

If you couldn't look at Bama and UGA's gameplan and come up w/ an approximation then you are a fail coordinator, and that's pretty much what we have. Blame it on "Marine" stubborness, Pinkel's conservative defense or whatever you want, it's irrelevant, we've seen it before. If Pinkel really want's to win the big games he's going to have to get a real DC and let him take it over, much like Henson just did with the offense last season.
Stec is the classic example of the great position coach that doesn't translate to a great coordinator, but his time in on the staff and ambition to move up got him his chance as a DC. Pinkels history and practice of promoting from within rather than going out and making a big splash hire will likely be the major factor in him not getting over the hump as a top level coach.
He's a system guy that needs coordinators who can over achieve on gameday planning, but he doesn't seem to be aware of or want to admit that fact.
