My uncle claims this is the sign of an engine that is breathing right. He spent like 8 grand deleting his 08 cummins(5.9?) and throwing a chip and new exhaust on it. Thing is a monster. In power mode he as 620 hp at the clutch and 450 torques. At least thats what the shop that it did told him. He can "roll coal" so thick you could hide a car behind him.
He is wrong. It is pushing way to much fuel into the motor to do that. All that black smoke is partially burned fuel and just wasting money it needs more air so it ain't breathing properly.

How badly would something like that hurt your mpg?

In all honesty it varies depending on how old the truck is. The older trucks were detuned by the factory so turning them up actually helped them. The newer trucks are not detuned, they are choked down with emissions bullshite. It hurts them to turn em up.
The only way to improve the mileage on newer ones is to open up the exhaust and match the fuel system to how much air you can get into and out of the motor

These people probably smoke in their trucks with the windows rolled up and their kids in the backseat with no booster seats.

You paint a poetic, lucid picture.

.and yep...just another example of "look-at-me" behavior. People that do this in their daily lives, outside of car-shows and the like, are dickheads. It's not some edgy political statement it's simple frickery.

I've never keyed a car. Never really even thought about it. But if I saw some dumbfrick driving this I'd key the shite out of it.

No kidding. Hopefully they'll never have kids with asthma and won't have to deal with it when some dumbasses exhaust triggers an attack.

This fad hasn't hit Alabama, yet. Pretty dumb, IMO. But I would like to see someone roll a Prius just once so I can laugh at both of them.

I can pretty much guarantee the person that does this doesn't have a "lot" of disposable income, they just spend what they do have on stupid shite

Shouldn't be able to pass an emissions test if so modified...

Where I live there are no emission tests.
