How do you get a shave waiver in the military? What do your superiors think? Or do they care as long as you have a waiver?

Have to get seen/approved for one at the base clinic.

They don't give a shite as long as you have one.

And like Wanderin intimated, a lot of black guys have them, so it's kind of assumed that a black guy with facial hair has a waiver.

Not to be racist, but why is it easier for black guys to get a shave waiver versus whites? What about Mexican and Asian Americans?

Forget that I included Asians...they can't grow facial hair.

Their skin is more prone to razor rash when they have to shave every day.

Genetics. A lot of black people's facial hair gets ingrown in a hurry and the problem is exacerbated by more frequent shaving.

Some guys just deal with it (my dad never had one, but he had/has constant skin problems with his face as a result), but it's better health-wise to get a waiver if you really need it.

How long will they let you grow it?

I have this terrible (and hilarious) image of myself in Dress Blues with a 6" beard and a high-reg.

My waiver says a quarter of an inch, but honestly I keep it shorter than that. As long as it's neatly groomed, no one gives me shite about it.

I get a lot less ingrown hairs now that I use a double edge razor......still one annoying spot on my chin tho.

I haven't shaved in a week. I've got the beard bug again.

Never caught the bug because I've always hated shaving. The only times I've been clean shaven since I was 19 was for job interviews. Normally I look about like the pictures that killz posted. I've known since I was 15 that when I retire I'm growing a ZZ top chest length beard

I try growing it, and then feel scrubby and shave it.
