i think it really comes down to Greene or Murray, at least for my lifetime. never saw Zeier or Tarkenton, Blue, etc. play.


Greene had the better defense. Murray the better weapons. in the end I think I would go with Greene. both had huge heart, but Greene got the job done.

I tend to agree. It's really tough to compare these two because of the defense Greene had and the weapons Murray had, like you mentioned. It's tough to tell how much better or worse either would have done had the roles been reversed.

If I'm going by the eye test, I would take Murray probably, but it's really tough to argue against Greene's W/L record.

While I like those two, that can't be a fair statement. Different times and different styles. Let's say, for example, that a team from the '40's era had an absolute dominant defense - could one say that was the best defense ever? If so, then why - since the game has changed so much in style from era to era.

A better comparison might be to say which is the greatest from a certain era?
