ARLINGTON — A protein bar and a little affection were all two Arlington police officers needed to coax the muscular, menacing-looking suspect off the streets and into the back of their patrol car.

Because of their thoughtful actions, Jeffery, a white pit pull (and the so-called suspect) has been reunited with his owner and the officers are being widely praised through social media.

Pits get a bad reputation. They are incredibly loving and loyal dogs.

Pussies. They're supposed to shoot on sight.

Don't like pits. Also, if you own a pit, you might be a redneck.

This board is a constant battle between cop haters and cop defenders. All threads on both sides always have to do with dogs.

The reality is some breeds are naturally more aggressive. It's not just a pit bull thing. And it takes a good owner to curtail that. Unfortunately a lot of pit owners want just the opposite out of their pit and definitely play up the more aggressive side of their breeding.

ETA: Dalmatians are a good example of this. Especially a poorly bred one. They can be very territorial and aggressive by nature. I wouldn't buy one if I had young children.
