LSU would have started Ryan Perrilloux in 2008 had he not been a frick up off the field, that was a Miles recruit. Miles' recruiting is fine, QB's are hard to project from high school to college and LA doesn't produce a lot of them. Jefferson was highly touted, Lee was an elite 11 quarterback.

The Jefferson/Lee saga and the Hatch/Lee thing is primarily what I'm talking about. Perrilloux put us in that spot but I feel like Miles was stubbornly wedded to Jefferson when it became painfully obvious at some point in the 2009 season that he needed to be pulled at many times. I was ecstatic when he got suspended from the team going into the 2011 season. No way LSU goes undefeated in 2011 with Jefferson running the show. I was all in for Lee starting going into the 2011 season, personally, and I think the results bore out that he deserved the spot over Jefferson, but he'd have never gotten it had it not been for JJ's off the field issues.

He also recruited Mett to LSU which was terrific. Both QB's currently on the roster were touted and so was Rettig who left due to depth issues. Now that Jefferson/Lee is gone the QB management may be great, but I saw stubbornness from Miles during that fiasco and the Hatch/Lee situation that leaves me a little concerned.

ETA: Zach Lee was another fantastic quarterback prospect Les recruited and looked great in spring training as an early enrollee but then got drafted in the first round to the LA Dodgers.

JJ had the best first year start for a non senior LSU QB since Tommy Hodson. He also did it with a horrible offensive line, and a run game that accumulated 1503 yards and 14 TDs total. In 12 games he had nearly 2200 passing yards, 170 rushing yards, and 18 total TDs with only 7 picks. He was the #2 QB in the Redzone in the nation and had a 61.5 cmp percentage.

You definitely don't know what you are talking about. At best in 2011, Lee managed the game. Total offense rose the second Jefferson got meaningful snaps during games. We could not run or pass the first half against UGA, you are placing that blame solely on Jefferson? In case you forgot, the two bad games he had were against the #3 and #1 ranked defenses in the nation. We wore UGA down in the second half, but we could not do it against Bama. Lee would have looked just like he did in 2008, 2009, and 2011 against Bama, very bad.
