It happens

Losing a quarter of your class in one year is pretty uncommon. It also drops their overall ranking in 2013 from 9th to around 16th.

Which is still a pretty good class. Better than our ten year average or anything Mississippi State has done recently.

We are a program that is trying to climb the ladder by jumping rungs. Rather than be a Tenn on the slow road to recovery, our program has been in the fast lane since the SEC move and we are taking a lot of risks.

Hence our taking early on some talented character risks to build recruiting momentum (which is now an unstoppable train), or paying Sumlin $5 million to not go to USC, or lawyering up Johnny instead of throwing him to the wolves, etc. We are taking risks all over the place, because we have a small window to make up a lot of ground.

And that's just after one year of attrition. Will be interesting to look back in a couple years at all the Sumlin recruits that prematurely left the team.
