What's up Mizzou? I just heard something about 20k people expected to pack a stadium today in Kansas City just to watch a World Cup game? Or did I hear that wrong?

What's up with that?

Not that I'm anti-soccer or anything, it's just unusual in a SEC state. I thought SCAR was the only program in the conference that carred about men's soccer.

There's a difference between college soccer and the USA in the World Cup. This is big. I would love to be part of that 20k.

I'm having about 20 people come watch it at my house.

Sporting KC averages about 20k per game, so that sounds about right.

Atlanta is getting an MLS team in 2017. Orlando is getting one next season.

Soccer became pretty popular here in MO about 10-15 years ago. It has taken a lot of good high school athletes away from the football programs. I don't get it either.

That's bad arse. I'd love for UT to have a viewing party with half that turn out.

I don't like soccer but love the World Cup...one of the best sporting events in the World. Hell Cowboy stadium had over 80,000+ when Mexico played there 2wks ago. Dallas and Houston always have friendly's and they are packed. Kansas City have a good number of immigrants.

ETA: Is the stadium that they are watching the game in over in Kansas City,KS??? That's where the pro soccer team plays, in Kansas.

I don't see how its unusual in an SEC State for a bunch of people to show up for a World Cup game. I know a shite ton of soccer fans my age and I live in Tennessee.

AC Milan and Liverpools are playing at BofA stadium in Charlotte in Augusta. Tickets are already sold out.

Over 16,000 showed up here in Atlanta a couple of months ago to watch the Women's National Team kick Russia's arse.

I'll be in a bar this afternoon yelling "U-S-A" at the top of my lungs with a bunch of other people in an SEC State. If that's somehow "not Southern" I'd like to avoid scrooster's ideas of Southern-ness as much as possible.

During World Cup qualifying vs Mexico in 2013:

quote:

Birmingham, Ala. was the top market for the match telecast, delivering a 2.9 rating. Rounding out the top five were: Austin, Texas (2.6), Seattle-Takoma, Wash. (2.4), Columbus, Ohio (2.4), and three markets – Los Angeles, San Diego, Hartford-New Haven, Conn., – were tied for fifth place (2.3).

We'll watch any sport in Alabama

It would be awesome if men's soccer took off in the SEC. Imagine tailgating in the spring every Saturday. Would be fun.

I will be grilling out and drinking beer for the game. Kids are tubing down the river today or else I'd go out and watch it.

There is supposedly a group formed to bring an MLS team to Bham. I'd love to see them use the Hoover Met. Perfect repurposing of that facility and puts them right in the middle of their target market for soccer.
