I had to go to Oxford, MS for a meeting a few months ago and received a speeding ticket and ticket for not showing proof of insurance in Pontotoc County.

These rednecks from the 1800's expect me to come there in person to show insurance and pay. You can't fax or email them proof of insurance and pay over the phone or via website.

2.5 hour drive and a wasted work day for this bullshite. yea, I'm mad.

Those are the worst cops in the state. They hunt for people to stop.

Why would you not have your insurance card? Sounds like it is time for personal responsibility and quit crying.

Lol I had the same thing happen to me driving out to West Texas and all I had to do was email a scan of the insurance card to one of the municipal court workers and they waived the ticket. And this is fricking rural West Texas we are talking about, which I have always perceived as overly backwards.

.......................I think I might have just let it go. I can't think of any good reason to ever travel to Oxford.

Justice for carrying a proof of insurance card. Very irresponsible OP.

And it's actually a business plan of some small towns. Either A) you bring it and it gets removed or B) they fine you and make money. As many here like to point out, MS is the poorest state in the nation. It has to take all it can. frick yo feelings.

I have no idea how much a ticket is for not having proof of insurance, but I'd think less than the cost of the drive.

But feel free to whine some more!

Relative to other states? Nah, probably not.
Just in general? Yeah, definitely so.

Yet, in Tunics County, you can be popped with weed. Get arrested. Pay 500 and admit guilt, get out at same time, and they mail you the difference after they take court fines out. Think it was 250, and never had to see court.

If you have a smart phone, you could have pulled up your info on your carriers website while you were pulled over.

How is the law written in Mississippi concerning car insurance? Even people with out-of-state license plates are required to have insurance just to pass through Mississippi?

Look, someone from Alabama calling someone a redneck.
Don't speed through my count.

But you can renew your driver's license in MS for eight years instead of four. Can't do that in Bama.
