In real life Midwestern accents are far and away the most retarded sounding accents.

Which Midwestern accent?

There are several and the Midwest is pretty fricking diverse.

I'm assuming you mean the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes family of accents, specifically the "yooper" accent and its relatives in Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Dakotas- most of my family has that. The bouncy singsong pattern is a carryover from Swedish/Norwegian/Finnish.

The rest of the Midwest, in my experience, is pretty accent neutral - especially the plains.

I saw a show on PBS a few years ago and learned that most newscasters are from (or used to be from) the midwest because their accents were considered 'neutral'
