Let's say that we complete that last pass to malcolm mitchell and win the sec and play nd. In all likelihood, we beat notre dame. So, when it comes to richt's resume, that one play is the difference between 2 sec titles and 0 nattys and 3 sec titles and 1 natty.

Regardless of the outcome of that one play, would that make richt any different as a coach? If that play had gone different, would he all of a sudden be a better or worse coach? Would he do anything differently in 2014 based on that play? No, he's still the EXACT same coach regardless of what happened.

That is ONE play, taking 5 seconds of game clock, that is the difference between people saying richt underachieves and shoudl have been fired years ago and richt is excellent and the best coach we've ever had and he should be given a 5 year contract extention. Based on one play.

I agree. However, there is that ONE play in other coaches lives that changed thier legacy, fair or unfair, and Richt has that ONE play.

One Play and AU wins the National Title last year.
One Play and Miami beat Oh St in 2002.
One play and GT is unanimous national champs in 1990.

There are a ton of One Plays out there...that is football life, fair or unfair.

again... i think we can make the distinction between resume's and who's actually the better football coach.

Fulmer's resume probably looks a little better... due in large part b/c of the 98 NC.... but that doesn't automatically mean he's the better coach.

If AU hadn't had a miracle against us, that wouldn't change how good of a coach gus is.

The PI call in teh osu/miami game doesn't change how good either of those teams were.

that's my point, how good richt is as a coach shouldn't have such a massive, wildly swinging opinion rest on a single play. The outcome of that play is the difference between this thread and "where does richt belong on the list of greatest SEC coaches in the last 30 years?"
