What matters in 2014 is how many new cable TV sets do you add in the footprint for SEC Network extortion. The extra ratings on CBS a Clemson or a FSU would mean very little in changing that Tier 1 contract. Meanwhile a Va Tech or NC State would add MILLIONS of cable subscribers who even if they don't give a crap about football will pay the SEC $0.50 per month.


If you want teams like a FSU or Clemson to be added to the SEC then you better hope expansion doesn't happen for 25+ years.

Maybe in that time the cable monopoly will be dead and the SEC Network actually has to fight for subscribers one at a time. At that point the football product will matter more than footprint and those teams would be tempting.
