Adalius Thomas also so went to Coosa Central, and we somehow didn't recruit either, that I know of.
I guess au fans could also say they missed on both of these guys also.

He was one class below me, and the reason he was under the radar is because he didn't do anything in football until his senior year. He was more of a track guy until then. He was a late bloomer with underdeveloped hands, and Coach Steve Savarese got him into UTC where he physically matured. And we know the rest.
People I know from Alex City all say he was always ultra athletic but never could put it together plus didn't play football till late. They said if someone told them 10000:1 payout for a 50$ bet TO would play a down in the NFL, no person would take it from Alex City

Big miss. Willis said it crushed him when he was only offered as a walk on. Fulmer dropped the ball on a few guys

Alex city back then was a little town that nobody would believe you could make it big in anything, much less NFL level success.
He was athletic, like in track and basketball, but physically matured (was always skinny as a rail) a little late. And you are correct on the fact that he didn't play football till late.
Yall definitely missed out on him because of the aforementioned reasons.

Easy to understand how TO flew under the radar. Supposedly he wasn't even good at football though when he did play. I was told he was taken on for football more because his basketball athleticism than anything he did on the field

This is true also, he was like all track guys converting to football, fast with bad hands and worse routes. But all that changed as he gained experience.
I believe he could have made it to the NBA had he focused on basketball only.
I talked to him at my 20 year reunion a couple of years ago, he is still a humble, down to earth guy, when he isn't being T.O. in front of cameras. He just happened to come to the same little bar where we were having the reunion, and came to the after party for a little while.

If the premise is guys that went to smaller schools and balled out, then Jerry Rice, Walter Payton, Steve McNair, and Brett Favre. Jackson State had some more but I dont know if they were all from MS. A more recent one ill throw out is... damn. I think his name was Larry? He played at Madison Central, went to Holmes, then some small school in Arkansas. He was a late draft pick a couple of years ago. Played DL all his life but was 6'0 240. PlayedLB at the Arky school and was drafted at one.

I think Marshall Faulk was only offered by a couple schools(LSU not being one) IIRC.
Sure there are tons more. And even more that left for FL. :coughDunncough:

Far from a legendary one, but one that comes to mind because it was recent and debated at the time for us is Jerrel Jernigan.
A lot of AU folks were really angry about it.
