Kirby Smart or bust?

I had a long conversation with a complete stranger yesterday after he saw my Auburn shirt and decided that the Lowes parking lot would be a good place for a football conversation. Long story short, we got on the subject of Nick Saban's replacement and he told me that "Kirby Smart will be just as good as Nick because defense wins championships." So what do you think? Would you Alabama fans be happy with Smart taking the reins after Saban retires or goes to Texas?

He is in line to take over or he wouldn't still be there, IMO.
Or, he just has unrealistic expectations for what a first head coaching job should be.

Is this still a thing?

I mean, he's had HC offers and he's still here, so he obviously believes he has a chance at becoming HC when Saban leaves.

I wouldn't. Smart = Muschamp

There is a higher probability that Malzahn would go to Texas than Saban at this point. And for the record, I'd put the odds of Malzahn ending up at Texas at 1/100000 chance.

Oh yeah Muschamp 2.0 will be a great Saban replacement.

Isn't Coach Boom still the Head-Coach-In-Waiting at texas?

I'd be happy with Kirby, defensive minded coach, good recruiter, understands the system in culture in place and wouldn't be much turbulence in the switch to the "new system"

Don't know about Alabama fans, but I would be happy with Mike Dubose 2.0

Can't see Bama handing the keys to a guy who's never been a head coach

Yeah, I thought you'd never get that lumber loaded into my truck.

Kirby will never make it at Bama. Defensive coaches under Saban don't have a great track record as HC's. If they want to go the Saban tree route, they're better off going after the offensive coaches like Jimbo or Dabo.
