This.

Egyptian Antiquities authorities like to put out the happy feel good line that the workers were skilled artisans working voluntarily, but the reality is that slavery - in some form or another - was pervasive abd normal in tge ancient wotkd and Pharaoh got what Pharaoh wanted.

Yea I mean when your choices are volunteer to get tax breaks or be forced into slavery, you're gonna volunteer

I don't think anyone was lining up to build the Pharaoh a pyramid because they cared about him and wanted him to be happy
